OUR MISSION
Camino de Paz is a small, locally owned farm and education center in
Santa Cruz, New Mexico.
Our mission is to cultivate a peaceful and sustainable relationship amongst people, the land, and the food we grow, rooted in the traditions of small-scale agriculture, diverse production, regenerative stewardship, and hard work. Camino de Paz businesses represent a conscious effort to form the world in which we live. In 1945 the State of New Mexico was over 90% self-sufficient in producing the food that its residents consumed. In 2020, local farmers produce less than 2%.
We strive to create a space where nature, community, and education come together. By providing the community with high-quality, healthy food and offering hands-on learning experiences, we inspire a deeper connection to the earth and a greater awareness of where our food comes from. Programs for young adults align with the Montessori philosophy of human development, which promotes independence, self-construction, community, and solidarity amongst all peoples and the environment. Our work is driven by a desire to promote peace in every aspect of life—from the soil we tend to the relationships we nurture.
At Camino de Paz, we believe that true peace begins with a conscious, sustainable way of living,
inspiring a more harmonious world, one step at a time.

Education
Camino de Paz emphasizes experiential learning, community engagement, fair economic and business practices, and developing independence. Over the years, the school has gained recognition for its innovative model, blending education with a deep respect for the land and sustainable practices. Students, both adults and youth, have visited Camino de Paz from all over the world. Camino de Paz operates as a working farm, offering participants the opportunity to engage in activities such as planting, harvesting, caring for livestock, food preservation and running a farm-based business. Through this immersive approach, we learn ecological responsibility, teamwork, and real-world problem-solving.
Our Farm
As a Montessori farm, the students help run the farm. Camino de Paz is dedicated to placing the adolescent’s contribution at the economic heart of Northern New Mexico.
The farm is a testament to the endless variety and creativity of nature, along with the hard work, care and love of the many hands who contributed to its viability. All the elements of Camino de Paz support each other to create a carefully managed and integrated ecosystem.
